Statement from Students For Liberty CEO Dr. Wolf von Laer on Covid-19

Crises are times in which the voice of liberty, our voice, is tested. Right now, we have to curtail some of our freedoms in order to avoid spreading a virus that moves as quickly as we are. We cannot forget that liberty has to come with responsibility if we want to make it viable and attractive. 

Therefore, I am proud to see that our community and the liberty movement, in general, has stepped up and taken steps to start working remotely, to limit their interactions with people, and to implement best practices during these trying times. 

How Socialism Destroyed Africa

Equating capitalism with colonialism, Africa’s nationalist leaders rejected it and adopted socialism in the 1960s. Foreign companies were nationalized, a string of state-owned enterprises was established and a plethora of state controls on rent, prices, imports, and foreign exchange were imposed to capture the commanding heights of the economy.

When Russia's state statistics agency released its initial estimates of 2018 economic growth on February 4, it caught economists, investment bankers, financial analysts, and many others off-guard.

It wasn't because the reported gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 2.3 percent was earth-shattering, or even that it was the country's strongest showing in six years. It was that Rosstat's figure bettered even the most optimistic forecasts, with experts having predicted something in the range of 1.8 to 2.1 percent.
